REGISTRATION ON MYTOURNAMENT.CA OPEN

As part of the Stage 3 reopening, Ontario will be increasing gathering limits for those regions entering the next stage to the following:
•indoor gathering limits will increase to a maximum of 50 people;
•outdoor gathering limits will increase to a maximum of 100 people; and
•gathering limits are subject to physical distancing requirements

One provision of the reopening is “prolonged or deliberate contact while playing sports” will remain prohibited. This would seem to indicate that there is an opening for touch football to resume once the GTA reaches Stage 3.
Working in conjunction with our partners in recreation in the municipalities and cities in which we host tournaments it is obvious they thy are making provisions for the resumption of services.

While nothing is guaranteed they will be looking to TFONT to provide a “back to play” protocol and safeguards to ensure that we avoid the likelihood of large crowds congregating, difficulties with physical distancing, or challenges maintaining the proper cleaning and sanitation required to prevent the spread of COVID.

As we prepare the proper protocols we must provide a plan based on the number of teams and participants expected at these tournaments. In order to do that we are asking that you speak to the players on your teams and register your teams for any tournaments you will attend should there be a resumption of tournament play on Mytournament.ca. Please do this as soon as possible.

There are no guarantees of resumption of play as some jurisdictions have already cancelled their permits for the remainder of the year but preparedness on our part is key if resumption occurs.

Stay healthy and hopeful,

Steve Morrell

THE MEMORY OF ED LAVERTY

Ed was the driving force behind the Ottawa Nepean Touch Football League. Under his guidance and leadership the ONTFL reached it's 50th year; where he excelled as an athlete, administrator, leader, builder, role model and noted ambassador. He also presided over Touch Football Ontario for nearly a decade and helped launch Touch Football Canada.

Ed was instrumental in enabling 40 years of Provincial and National Touch Championships across the country to take place.  He introduced thousands to the sport of touch football; with second and third generations now playing.

His selfless efforts were acknowledged in 2013 when he was awarded the Mayor’s Cup Award for his Outstanding Contribution to Sport in Ottawa and in 2014 when he was inducted in the prestigious Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame where he was recognized for his 50 years of contribution and dedication as a community builder.

He was a special man, who would give you the shirt off his back. He was always quick to lend a helping hand and extend an open door to whoever needed it. He was a jokester, famous for his one liners and a loyal friend.

He’s an irreplaceable “One of a Kind” humble man who is missed beyond measure but who's legacy is carried on through his family, colleagues and the many lives he touched in world of sport and community.
