Prior to the Unionville
stop, the Canadians and Spartans had already locked down their first
and second place spots. This left the remaining tier one squads fighting
for higher seeds heading into the Provincials. Would the Piranhas move
past the Mustangs? Would the Trojans move past the Hellcats? Or would
the All-State Titans earn enough points to warrant a tier one Provincial
birth? Read on to find out…..
As always, we’ll start our elite
recap with the quarter-finals. The Toronto Jets slipped past the Toronto
Trojans in their 32 to 30 shootout. The Canadians had their hands full
since they had to play comeback football to slide past the ever-improving
Roxbury Saints. The Spartans and Piranhas would handle their opponents
(The Red Eye’s and Frogs) in convincing fashions and then clash
in the next round.
In our Semifinals, the Canadians would
hold the potent Jet offense to just 14 points. Scoring 42 themselves,
the number one ranked ONC would advance to their fourth consecutive
championship game. In our other semi-final, the Piranhas edged out the
mighty Spartans by three points. With this victory, they made their
second appearance in the finals of the tour.
2004 has brought the elite division of
the Trillium Tour parity. Although the Canadians have dominated in the
wins-vs-loss department, they’ve had to earn much of their record
in close match ups. This final wouldn’t be any different. The
Canadians would find themselves in a game that would take the very last
minute to decide. The Piranhas held a small lead with only minutes remaining,
leaving Canadian qb Rodney Moors a small chance at a comeback victory.
Demonstrating many times in the past that any chance is almost enough,
Rodney would march 70 plus yards to lead his team to their third title
of the season. Congratulations gentlemen!!
Deservedly so, Rod Moors would earn the
game mvp for his team. Piranha phenom, Alex Hutton, would earn the honours
for his.
With the Piranhas, Spartans, Mustangs
and the rest of the elite teams of tier one playing some great football
down the stretch, entertaining and competitive football for the Provincials
is an almost guarantee. See you all there!!!
