With the Bulls, the Frogs, The Red Eyes, The Cyclones, The Ravens, The Cowboys, The Irish and Hogs duking it out, the "A" side of tier two was completely up for grabs in Unionville. Though the quarters gave us a couple of blowouts, the Semi's offered some close competition. The Cyclones were able to outlast and withstand the ever athletic and aggressive crew from Hamilton as they beat the Red Eyes 31 to 24 to advance to the finals. Our other semi's saw the Bulls lasso the Cowboys hopes with a 23 to 14 decision to advance themselves. The Cyclones displayed strong poise all day, despite their engaging in close confrontations. They continued their collectiveness in the finals to once again come out on the positive end of a close game. The Cyclones defeated the Bulls 28 to 20 to win their second title in 2003. Congratulations gentlemen! Cyclone GM Jamie Rusynyk shared a few words with us regarding his teams success;
The Mississauga Cyclones started the tournament out against the Scarborough Raiders. After taking an early lead the Raiders came back to make it close but the Cylcones managed to pull it out. The second game on Saturday was closer against the Kitchener Gaels. The Gaels led the entire game until the Cyclones got the ball back with about three minutes to go. The Cyclones managed to get the ball down the field and get the touchdown on the last play of the game. Down by one they went for the two point convert. Dale LeVarno threw an excellent out to Jay Johnson to seal the deal. On Sunday, the Cyclones had three extremely tough games. They beat Kingston AJ's Frogs in a close game. Safety Mark Miles Levene returned two int's for touchdowns to help. The semi's were against the Red Eyes. Jeff Farwell intercepted three balls in that victory. In the finals, the Burlington Bulls jumped out to an early 12-0 but on the last play of the half Chris Dickins made a nice catch on a Dale LeVarno offering. The Cyclones won the game thanks to a patient offence, good defensive calling and a timely interception by Mark Miles Levene. They celebrated in the torn down beer tent where even Lenroy Henry had a couple of beers!!!!
Thanks Jamie and good luck to you are your teammates at the Provincials. It should be noted that this was the third final game appearance for the Burlington Bulls in 2003. Well done fellas! Please see pictures of the Champions and Finalists below, click on their images to have them enlarged.
