In the summer of 2004, Team Canada began its formulation in the City of St Jean Sur Richelieu. There, many of the best players from across Ontario and Quebec competed in a friendly international tournament. The objective of this all-star showcase was to select one team that would represent Canadian touch/flag football on the global stage.

Once the team was selected, the Friday evenings of our Provincial & National Championships would be the practice grounds for our team. With a large number of players residing in Quebec, The Nationals would be the first opportunity for our talent-laden crew to have a full team practice. It was also our first chance to try on our Team Canada attire. Although some players were on the National team in previous years, for some of us, this was a first. Donning the jackets was a very cool moment.

The next step for Team Canada was the November World Cup qualifier in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Before I get into the details surrounding that incredibly memorable weekend, I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work put forth by our trusty coach and GM, Russ Henderson.

Russ will be the first to tell you that he couldn’t have organized this crew and its trip without the help of Touch Football Ontario, Touch Football Quebec and the volunteers that assisted. Although this is true, allow me to tell you that despite the assistance of the aforementioned sources, this couldn’t have worked without Russ’s labors. I think I speak for the whole team when I say thanks for everything you did for us Russ. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

I'd also like to thank the rest of our coaching staff for all of their hard work. Not only are the below men great guys to hang with off of the field, they were invaluable members of our squad. Thanks for all of your hard work gents, and more importantly, thanks for the great memories!

The majority of Team Canada players were taking the same flight out of Toronto. Because the flight was so early in morning, and because some of us were driving or flying in from other cities, the mood was pretty mellow as we greeted each other at the boarding gate. This was probably the only period of insult-free and quiet discourse on the trip, excluding Rob Houston of course:)
