With the Titans, Red Eyes, Cobras, Gaels, Knights and The Cyclones competing, the “BB” division was up for grabs. With The Moncton Bulldogs and Montreal Wildcats from out of Province, question marks surrounded their teams, making for a very interesting draw. We’ll start our recap with the quarter-finals.

For the first time all year, The Ottawa Cobras had a full team for every game of this tournament. It proved to be a good thing for them but a bad thing for the explosive Toronto Allstate Titans as they were handed a 26 to 14 defeat in their match up. The Kitchener Gaels, who have been turning heads their way all season, faced off against the rough and tough Hamilton Red Eyes. I had the opportunity to catch this one from start to finish. It was quite the battle with the Gaels coming out on the top end of a 27 to 26 decision. The Moncton Bulldogs quickly figured out the always unorthodox style of the Ottawa Knights as they defeated them 29 to 12. Our other question mark team, The Montreal Wildcats, held the talented Mississauga Cyclones to only 6 points. Scoring 22 of their own, the Wildcats moved on to the next round.

In our first semi-final match up The Cobras and Wildcats played to a 14 to 12 defensive battle. With the Cobras coming out on the positive end of that one, they sat in the wings awaiting the winner of our next semi final. In that one, The Bulldogs kept the ball rolling as they were able keep the offensively able Gaels at bay with a 15 to 6 victory.

Cobra legendary quarterback Barry Hughes is no stranger to the “big game”. Winning a Canadian “Elite” title in the past and capturing countless Ottawa Nepean Touch Football League MVP honors, Barry and his Cobras would have to be considered as the favorites in this one. Try telling that to the well traveled Bulldogs in the wake of their 24 to 16 handling of the Cobras. For much of the match, Moncton maintained control earning them the 2003 “BB” Canadian title. Congratulations gentlemen!!
