With four teams dropping down from tier
one and four teams staying in the upper bracket of tier two, the “A”
division took shape. We’ll start our recap with the quarterfinals;
The first game saw the veteran Silver Bullets defeat the up and coming
Toronto Force 31 to 6. My Legends and I defeated our hometown rivals,
Ottawa Seminoles, 39 to 26. The Kingston Frogs beat the talented Hamilton
Irish 32 to 20 and the Mississauga Cyclones, in our last quarter final,
slipped past the crafty Burlington Bulls 38 to 30.
In the semi finals my Legends and I took on another of our hometown
rivals, the Silver Bullets. With my dad at the Bullet helm, a confrontation
with our two teams always carries a little more weight for me. Both
of our teams came down to the Labor Classic with skeleton crews. Luckily
our crew wasn’t as skeletal as theirs (or at least, our 9 players
were stronger then their 10), as we were able to cruise to a 43 to 14
victory.
Our next semi finals gave the Singing Frogs a chance at revenge on The
Cyclones. When these two teams last met in the Unionville stop, the
Cyclones eliminated the Frogs in an aggressive 20 to 13 quarter final
victory. It was the Frogs doing the eliminating this time around as
they handed the Cyclones a 22 to 14 send-off.
Though the Frogs got their revenge on the Cyclones, it was our turn
(my Legends and I) to get our revenge on them. At the Kingston stop,
the Frogs, despite our chances on their 4-yard line at the end of the
game, defeated us, sending myself and my teammates to the loathed preliminaries.
In our championship game meeting at the Provincials my Legends and I
were able to stave off the increasing fatigue to perform well for one
more game. From the start of the game to its finish, my squad played
with their hearts on their sleeve, allowing us to win the game and hence
the Provincial "A" Championships.
