The fourth tournament of
the 2004 Trillium Tour brings us to the Ottawa stop. The National Capital
Classic is always a special one for myself and not just because I get
to sleep in my own bed. It’s always special because we get to
play host to many of our out-of-town teams. Before I go any further
in this newsletter, I’d like to send a special thanks to all of
those teams who made the trek to our city. I hope you enjoyed playing
in this event as much as we enjoyed hosting it for you. Thankfully,
the weather was as football friendly to our footballers as the Market
and Elgin Street always are. From what I heard, some of our traveling
teams had a little too much fun on the Friday and Saturday evenings.
But hey, what’s a Trillium tournament without some memorable off-field
shenanigans?? As always, there were a few glitches in the system, most
notably our inability to have anyone snap a picture of the Mud Pigs
and the Reggae Boys again. I will make it up to you two teams, I swear
by it!!! Aside from that, and the usual mishaps, anyone leaving the
Ottawa tournament should feel that they received fair value for their
expenditures, or at least, we really hope you felt that way:-D
Once again, I’d personally
like to thank Adel Mahfouz, Wayne Lahie and Bryan Hughes for their tireless
efforts at the fields. Whether it’s taking pictures, dishing out
trophies, or ensuring that my father has his sunscreen on, these three
men can’t be thanked enough, THANK YOU!!! Of course, our organizing
committee can never get enough propps for their contributions. So, Brent
Rennick (ROC), Russ Henderson, Sean Monaghan and the rest of our priceless
committee members, thank you so much! I'd also like to thank referee
Dave Ash for taking more pictures at the fields for me. I know you'd
much rather have that halftime smoke then snap pictures, I feel the
same way bro:D
