Back in the Saddle

It didn’t take long for the Canadians to get an opportunity for championship game revenge against the Mustangs, regarding their loss in Kingston. Both teams played some exceptional football before squaring off in the Ottawa finals. Let’s see who they faced and how they fared beginning with the quarterfinals...

Quarters- Ottawa N.C. 34 vs Ott Tigers 12

Quarters- Ott Mustangs 29 vs Mtl Montser Gym

Quarters- Burl Piranhas 34 vs Mtl Patriots 0

Quarters- Almt Hellcats 34 vs T.O. Trojans 29

Semi's- ONC 33 vs Almonte Hellcats 12

Semi's- Ott Mustangs 29 vs Burl Piranhas 12

Finals- ONC 48 vs Ott Mustangs 20

My Almonte Hellcats and I would slide into our second semi-final appearance. To do so we had to slip past Captain Cannon (Jeremy Mussche) and his speedy Toronto Trojans on the very last play of the game. Other quarter-final matches saw the Canadians easily handle the Ottawa Vikings. It should be noted that it was those same Vikings that upset the Toronto Jets in the round robin. The Mustangs edged out Montréal’s Monsters 29 to 18 in a match up that could have gone either way. Finally, the Piranhas dominated the Montreal Patriots, 34 to 0.

In the Semi’s, Canadian’s quarterback Rodney Moores threw only three incomplete passes (converts) en route to their 33 to 12 handling of my Hellcats. In the other Semi’s, the Mustangs earned their first ever victory over the Piranhas in a convincing 29 to 12 contest.

This brings us to the Kingston rematch. I’m sure no team looked more forward to this then the Canadians. With both teams putting up impressive numbers throughout the Ottawa stop, spectators were in for a potentially exciting game. Despite some on field skirmishes to provide some excitement, this game was a one sided affair, and thus not the match-up we were hoping to watch. Whether the Stangs were as beaten up as they appeared to be, one thing from this game was certain, the Canadians are back in top form, which is bad news for the rest of us. They would hand the Mustangs a forceful 48 to 20 defeat. Out of three tournaments, the Canadians have one loss and two Elite Titles under their belts. They will head into Unionville still ranked number one in the Province. Congratulations gentlemen!
