The Toronto Trojans almost rebuilt their offense completely in the off-season. As the 2009 campaign progressed, we all knew they would evolve, however, punctuated equilibrium, as it theoretically does, unfolded quickly.
Prior to the Ottawa stop, the Trojans were AA semi-finalists, and had advanced to two A championship games, earning a title in one. The National Capital Classic saw the Trojans trump their previous accomplishments in dramatic fashion.
In quarter-final play, the Trojans made easy work of another revamped offense, the Toronto Lightning. They moved on to the semi’s to face, and defeat, the top team in the province, the Hamilton Piranhas. Despite the high scoring contest, the Trojans were solid on both sides of the ball.
The Trojans advanced to the AA finals for only the second time in team history to face yet another overhauled offense, the Ottawa Capitals, also making their second AA final. The Trojans had to have been happy with their opponents, as they are the only team the Capitals have not beaten in their three years as a team.
With neither the Trojans nor the Capitals capturing AA gold in the past, one team was walking away with a piece of TFO history, and unfortunately for the hometown Capitals, the Trojans bested them again.
The victory, however, did not come easy for the Trojans. They had to endure sudden-death converts, which was prompted by a last second Capital punt to tie the game.
Since the two-time Canadian and Ontario champion Mississauga Rattlers walked away from the game some 8 years ago, only six teams have earned an elite championship on the Tour.
Whatever happens with the Trojans from here on out, no one can take away their special place in Trillium Tour history. Congratulations guys!

The re-tooled Ottawa Seminoles made an impact at the Kingston stop, losing a close decision in a high-scoring BB final.
Despite splitting their AA pool at the Ottawa stop, the Seminoles finished in third place to compete in the A-side. From their preliminary battle, to the championship game, the Seminoles were a fine tuned offensive machine, averaging nearly 30 points a game.
While they only scored 19 points in the finals, their defence held their local-rivals, the Express, to a single score to help capture the title. The Seminoles competed for the A title at last year’s NCC to help put a gauge on their off-season improvements. Congratulations guys!

Scoring only a single point in their round-robin matches meant that the Markham Mustangs needed to play, and win, a Sunday morning 8:30 am preliminary match-up before getting a chance to compete in the CC play-offs.
Finding their offensive prowess, the Mustangs almost doubled the Ottawa Boilermakers 27 to 14 to advance to the semi-finals.
For the next two contests, the Mustangs leaned on their defense, allowing only 8 combined points against to earn their first title of the year. Congratulations guys!

Unbeaten this season, the Ottawa Devils were on home turf at the Capital Classic. Well rested, thanks to a late start and the comfort of their beds, the Devils were primed to defend their 2008 Trillium Tour stop title. With no shortage of top-ranked opponents from Ontario and Quebec gunning for them, the Devils were going to take advantage of every opportunity they could.
In three contests on their first day of play, the Devils scored 95 combined points, allowing only a single converted touchdown against. On championship Sunday, playing two games, the Devils allowed 18 points against, but put up another 57 of their own to win elite gold. The Devils just seem to get better, regardless of their opponents, or their roster shuffle, so long as their trusty pivot and defensive captain are marshalling the field.
Catching the Devils off-guard isn’t impossible (see the Rebels last year) but it seems like it’s going to be a rare occurrence unless someone can consistently hold their qb, Kim Kerr, to fewer gains per game. While Kim may be the best running qb women’s football has ever seen, she’s also maturing into a brilliant passer, as evidenced in her Geant semi-final win. Kim was sacked a few times, but still led the way with her feet and arm.
Still several years from her prime, Kim and her Devils have a very bright future, and that’s a scary thought considering how young much of their core is. There’s a giant bulls eye on their jerseys, who if anyone will strike first?

The Montreal Fleur De Lys kicked off the Ottawa stop with a perfect 2 and 0 record, earning one-sided decisions over the Montreal Warriors and the Toronto Rebels. Despite being knocked down to the A side in preliminary play-offs via the Toronto Rockets, the Fleur De Lys had to be impressed with their first day of action, as it was the best showing for their ever-maturing young quarterback.
Beating the Ottawa Jets by two scores in the semi’s, the Fleur De Lys had another opportunity to upset the 3rd ranked Rebels in the finals. While this battle was closer on the scoreboard than the last one, the Fleur De Lys pulled out another convincing victory over the Rebels to capture their first title of the season. Congratulations ladies!

Dropping both round-robin contests, the Coyotes found their stride in the BB division. Aside from their low-scoring championship game, the Coyotes were an offensive powerhouse for much of the weekend, scoring a combined 105 points.
They’d use their offensive punch to blast their way to the finals, where defence would take center stage in their 14 to 0 victory over Team Mexico, which earned them their first Trillium title of the season. Congratulations ladies!
Touch Football Ontario would like to thank team Mexico for making the trip and adding a layer of excitement to the Tour stop. We hope you enjoyed your stay.

The Kitchener Stampeders switched their veteran qb for a quicker, albeit less-experienced pivot. While his legs and a solid core helped the Stamps advance to multiple championship contests, a title remained elusive until the Ottawa-stop.
After a 0-2 round-robin start, the Stampeders earned three straight offensively impressive victories to capture their first title of the year. Congratulations guys!
