The Hamilton Piranhas’ only blemish on their TFO record came at the first tournament, which was a rain-filled AA quarter-final loss. They not only went on to win that tournament, they won the next two at the elite level, completely undefeated.

Winning a title in Ottawa for the Piranhas would be a difficult task, as they travelled to their fourth consecutive tournament with a small roster.

Posing even more of a problem for the Piranhas was their competition. They had to battle to the end to defeat the surging Landell Lightning in the semis before advancing to face the #2 ranked Kitchener Gaels in the Finals.

The Gaels, who also travelled with a short bench, looked impressive all weekend too. Despite solid competition on paper, they dominated their way to the finals.

The Piranhas and Gaels clashed for the elite title for the second time this season. In their first meeting in Hamilton, Piranha qb Jay Hayes took a step back for his protégé (Mike Cripps), who lead their team to a slim victory. With Hayes at the helm for this one, the Piranhas posted an even greater victory, leading his band to a 34 to 15 championship.

The Piranhas continued to impress on the Tour. Despite a fatigued roster faced with the pressures that come with a first place position, this gritty and talented team left the nations’ capital with another elite title and a perfect record. Congratulations guys!

After a strong start to the season at the Hamilton Bowl, the Ottawa Capitals took a few steps back in Kingston, posting their worst finish in team history.

Things got off to a shaky start at the Ottawa stop as they dropped both round-robin games, forfeiting their opportunity at AA anything.

The Capitals, however, rebounded nicely from this disappointment. In their next four games, they not only posted a perfect record, they forced an early end to each contest, outscoring their opponents with a combined 136 to 46 margin.

The Capitals earned their first title of the year, and the all-important 46 points. Congratulations guys!

Never has a championship been so bitter-sweet for a victorious team, and their opponents as well. The Ottawa/Kingston Argos played their last game on the Tour at the Ottawa stop. Despite climbing from tier three hopeful to elite contender over the last few years, the numbers game finally caught up with them.

Athletes who leave for university ball can always help a team in the early portions of the Tour, however, relying on them as committed starters can be a teams undoing.

Unfortunately, this was the end-scenario for the Argos. This was a big loss to the Tour, as not only did we lose an always-competitive force, we also lost the most exciting one-two punch in TFO (speaking of the Hughes and Hughes show of course).

Hopefully they can regroup and take another stab at things next season, but if the Ottawa stop was the last we’ll ever see of the squad, congratulations on a strong finish to an excellent career. You will be missed!!

After uncharacteristically dropping to the BB side of things, the Argos controlled three very game opponents to capture their first and last title of the season.

Montreal’s Blue Bayou made their first Tour appearance at the Ottawa stop. Things got off to a great start for the Montrealers as they were perfect in round-robin play. Losing in preliminary action, the Blue Bayou slipped into the B play-offs where they wouldn’t lose again.

Posting three consecutive victories, including a 19 to 12 decision over their rivals, the Water Buffaloes in the finals, the Montreal Blue Bayou left Ottawa with their first title of the year, Congratualtions!

Since the Provincials last year, the Ottawa Devils have been arguably the best team in women’s football. Their rank at the top of TFO, and their stellar performances this year helps to back up that statement.

Nothing has come easy for the Devils, however, as competition in women’s football has never been more intense. There are several true elite teams giving them all they can handle at each tour stop, and just as many who, a few circumstances or points in their favor could be in their position.

They were twice in danger of a second setback at the Ottawa stop, as they and the Montreal Fleur De Lys, who played a stellar tournament with their back-up qb, engaged in a heated Championship final.

Inside the 3-minute warning and trailing the Devils by 7 points, the Fleur De lys scored a touchdown, only to fail the game-winning 2-point conversion.

While the Fleur De Lys regained possession not long after, their best chance at winning the game depended on that convert. The Devils earned a hard-fought 25 to 24 decision, and their second title of the season.

Winning a tournament is always a difficult task, but winning continuously in an environment of such equality speaks volumes for the Devils.Congratulations on your success ladies!

The Ottawa Firm had a fantastic start at the Kingston Limestone. They were on a 4-game win streak until they were blanked in the finals.
