The new format once again displayed its value in Kingston.
The Hamilton Piranhas, despite getting knocked out of the Elite picture,
slipped past the Ottawa Nepean Canadians, after winning K-town’s
“A” division, to take the number one spot in the Province.
This just could not have happened in previous years. Let’s see who
the Piranhas had to face, beginning with the Quarter-Finals.
Quarter-Finals
Ottawa ACC Argos 23 vs
GTA Lions
Ottawa Hellcats 29 vs
Ottawa Outlaws 20
Montreal Maroons 21 vs
Montreal Mavericks 18
Hamilton Piranhas 35 vs
Kitchener Gaels 18
One thing we’d like to mention before we get into any of the
results, is the injury sustained to the Maverick’s legendary qb
Neil Robertson. Neil suffered a torn achilles tendon, whose snap, apparently,
could be heard in the parking lot. Neil underwent surgery last week.
Everyone involved with TFO wishes you a very speedy recovery!
Semi-Finals
Hamilton Piranhas 27 vs
Ottawa ACC Argos 22
Montreal Maroons 30 vs
Ottawa Hellcats 28
The Piranhas had to dig deep to earn their 46 points. They got Hamilton
Bowl revenge on the Gaels in the quarters, before slipping past the
Argos to face the Maroons in the final. With the Maroons defeating the
Piranhas fairly handily in round-robin action, the stage was set for
a promising championship game.
As is already known, the Piranhas would dish out a double dose of Sunday
play-off revenge, defeating the Maroons 28 to 19. This victory gave
the Piranhas enough points to take the number one slot in the Province,
an impressive feat indeed. Congratulations gentlemen!
