The GTA Lions may have a poor wins and loss record, but there isn’t a team who has lost as many close games as that bunch. After a controversial round-robin third place finish, the lions would drop form the Elite picture to face the hungry Hamilton Irish in the “A” preliminaries. This was one of those rare occasions where the Lions weren’t within a single td from defeating their opponents, as the talented Irish more than doubled them 30 to 14.

The Lions were forced to take their act to the “AC” division, where their fortunes would finally change. They first faced the always crafty Burlington Bulls in semi-final action, which proved to be another close contest. After slipping past them 22 to 20, the Lions would go on to face the Mississauga Enforcers, who defeated the number one ranked Ottawa Seminoles in the exact fashion.

The final wasn’t exactly the highest scoring affair, but it was another close contest for them. Each squad features many gifted athletes, not to mention highly experienced quarterbacks, so for both defenses to hold these offenses to single td’s says a lot about their abilities. The Lions would eventually pull out a slim 7 to 6 decision, earning their first title of the season, congratulations gentlemen!
