The new format brought forward by Russ Henderson and our men’s committee, gave a new look to our tour, one that greatly affects the “A” division. Four “AA” quarter finalist losers drop to face the victorious teams from the “A” side, making room for some serious movement in the points department.

Other then the Mississauga Hawks, the semifinals featured the drop down teams from the elite division, although the Hawks could have competed at any level. Regardless, this division offered some great contests.

Quarterfinals

Kitchener Gaels 35 vs Montreal Mavericks 14

Mississauga Hawks 28 vs GTA Lions 20

Ottawa Capitals 41 vs Burlington Jets 6

Ottawa Tailgators 27 vs Burlington Bulls 16

The reformed Kitchener Gaels were only a couple of dropped td passes from moving on to the finals, and the Capitals were only a Cory Grant away from winning their sudden death OT convert showdown with former Rattler great, Billy Kubas, and his Laurier/CFL-laden Hawks.

Semi Finals

Ottawa Tailgators 20 vs Kitchener Gaels 8

Mississauga Hawks 28 vs Ottawa Capitals 27

The Championship game between the Tailgators and the Hawks was an interesting one to watch, as Tailgator qb, Craig Mathews, had been compared to a young Billy Kubas (Hawks qb) several times on our message boards. Unfortunately for Craig and his sqad, Billy showed how he lead one of the most dominate forces at the elite level a few years back by outscoring them 32 to 8.

TFO would like to thank the Hawks for adding a fresh spice to our Tour, it’s just to bad the Early Bird will be their last appearance this year. Congratulations gentlemen!
