This year was also a break-through year for women’s football in Ontario. Welcoming the Toronto Rebels, the Burlington Ravens and the Ottawa Edge into the elite mix added new flavors to the women’s Tour. As stated many times this year, 2005 saw some of the closet and most unpredictable match ups in recent memory. Although early portions of the Tour featured diverse championships results, the Toronto Shock began to emerge as the dominating force for the last coupe of seasons.

Through Ottawa, Unionville, and now the Trillium Cup, the Shock have went undefeated in three consecutive tournaments. Three seems to be the magic number for this squad, as 2005 marked the Shock’s third consecutive Provincial Elite crown. Let’s see whom this gifted squad had to defeat before earning this incredible achievement.

Quarterfinals

Toronto Rockets 25 vs Scarborough Raiders 6

Burlington Ravens 21 vs Ottawa Devils 0

Toronto Rebels 27 vs Ottawa Edge 12

Toronto Shock 25 Toronto Wildcats 6

Semifinals

Toronto Rockets 32 Toronto Rebels 14

Toronto Shock 6 vs Burlington Ravens 2

Finals

Toronto Shock 8 vs Toronto Rockets 1

Although the Shock swept through the Trillium Cup, their games were contested, especially their semifinal and championship match-ups. The Ravens and Rockets took this team to the limit, but as usual, the adaptive Shock were up to the challenge. With their speed and experience, the Shock kept their composure in these close contests, outlasting the Ravens 6 to 2, and finally staving off the potentially explosive Rockets, 8 to 1, to capture their title.

Congratulations on another fine campaign ladies. As the number one team in the Province, we have no doubt that you’ll represent Ontario exceptionally at the Tournament of Champions over Thanksgiving weekend. You’ve been finalists two years running at the Canadian Championships, and we all know it’s only a matter time before you capture your first. Good luck ladies!

TFO would like to wish the best of luck to our women's teams representing the Province at the Nationals. Although you mainly play for yourselves, your teammates and your city, as the Tour does promote healthy inter-city competition, TFO always takes great pride in your out of Province efforts. Good luck to you all!
