The women’s division hasn’t seen this kind of competition since our ladies’ teams split away from the tour that sad day a few years back. Three Trillium Tournaments into the season, and we’ve had three different Elite Champions. I really cannot recall the last time that has happened. Regardless, the Toronto Rockets were at the center of it all in Kingston.

With the Rockets, Rebels, Devils, Fleur De Lys, Shock, Edge, Raiders and Wildcats squaring off in the playoffs, women’s football has never been more entertaining to watch. Let’s see who did what, beginning with the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals

Toronto Rockets 9 vs Mtl Flag Mag Fleur De Lys 8

Toronto Rebels 12 vs Toronto Wildcats 6

Toronto Shock 9 vs Ottawa Devils 6

Ottawa Edge 19 vs Scarborough Raiders 7

Semifinals

Toronto Rockets 14 vs Ottawa Edge 13

Toronto Rebels 12 vs Toronto Shock 7

Finals

Toronto Rockets 6 vs Toronto Rebels 0

Every game from the quarterfinals to the finals featured incredibly close match-ups. Coaches must have walked away from Kingston with a few extra gray hairs after these games. It was particularly stressful for Rockets’ long serving play caller, Steve Morell. Although his ladies played some exceptional ball, their close results kept opponents in the picture till the very end.

The Championship game was a fine example of one these close results. The Rockets and Rebels squared off for the second time this weekend. In their round robin first meeting, the Rockets walked away with a 14 to 1 victory.

The Championship game saw an even closer result, with the Rockets slipping past the Rebels 6 to 0. The ladies in black red and white can thank the stellar play of standout rusher/utility play Danielle Knox for this. Keeping the speedy Rebel quarterback Donna Paul at bay is one tough assignment, one that Danielle (a.k.a. fort Knox) seemed to be up for. Rightfully so, she was awarded with the game MVP after her team hoisted the Elite crown. Congratulations on you first title of the year ladies!
