Prior to Kingston, much of the talk surrounding Monster Gym’s
successor as the dominant team from Quebec belonged to Fred Lachance’s
Montreal Maroons. Although the Maroons are deserved of all the praise
thrown their way, those doing the praising may have overlooked another
Montreal squad, the Mavericks.
Lead by Touch Football Quebec President Mike Cuscuna, the Mavericks
have always been a highly competitive team. Picking up 2004 National
Champion quarterback Neil Robertson, formerly of the Montreal Patriots,
the Mavericks have become an even greater force to be reckoned with.
This team has defeated the Maroons in two Montreal-based tournaments
prior to Kingston. As the homepage suggests, the Mavericks went on to
win every game they played, eventually coming out of Kingston with the
“A” crown and an assurance that they would play in tier
one at the next stop. Congratulations gentlemen!

A story that needs to be shared is the resurrection of
Pat Miller and his Saints. Despite merging with the experienced Hamilton
Red Eyes, the Saints had a rough start to the 2005 Trillium Tour. Going
0 for 8, and dropping out the tier one picture, things were looking
shaky for this unit. Despite losing team and TFO staff member Al Trevisan
to health matters (he’s recovering nicely…our thoughts are
with ya bro!), and being bombarded with countless negative remarks on
our message boards, the Saints stepped things up in Kingston. They would
post a 5 and 1 record, with that one loss occurring in the championship
game to the Mavericks. Well-done fellas!!
