As mentioned on the homepage, Kingston is a great location for out of town teams to compete in. Not only do we see most of the Ottawa and Toronto/Hamilton teams in attendance, Quebec based squads flock there as well. With 15 women's teams competing in the Limestone Classic, the most for any 2003 tour stop, the action was deep.

We start our overview of the Women's top tier with the quarter finals. The Toronto Shock easily handed the Scarborough Raiders a 31 to 0 send off. The Devils gave a free 32 to 0 lesson to the inexperienced Ottawa Fury. The Roadrunners slipped past the Toronto Rockets with a close 19 to 18 decision. The Montreal Fleur De Lys gave fellow Quebecers, The Montreal Warriors, a free trip to the beer tent with a 30 to 0 victory.

The semi finals gave us a couple of better even matched contests. The Shock and The Fleur Des Lys went at it first. Though some of the girls from these two teams played together at the World Cup in the Bahamas this past February, it was all business once the whistle blew. After a hard fought battle, The Toronto Shock found themselves advancing to the finals for the second consecutive tournament. They defeated the Montreal ladies 20 to 12

Our other Semi Final Match up saw the Ottawa Devils take on home town rivals The Roadrunners. Though the Roadrunners handed the Devils their first loss in ONTFL league play 3 days before the tournament, It was the Devils who walked away victorious in this one. After a close first half, the Devils turned their game up a notch to defeat the Roadrunners 30 to 13.

Coming off their first ever tier one title in St Catharines, Coach "K" and his Toronto Shock looked primed for another. With nearly two months to think about their Early Bird quarter final defeat, The Devils were primed for a title themselves. Though the Devils were the favorites going into this one, thoughts of a blowout were quickly dispelled once the Devils found themselves in a heated game. In what was a very exciting tournament final, the Devils came out on top, defeating the Shock 20 to 12. I'd like to send out big congratulations to the Devils for winning their first title of the season and also to the Shock for their continued success in 2003. I look forward to seeing you both on the tour! Devils defensive back and team manager, Michele Dumel, shared a few words with us regarding her team's achievement in Kingston;

The Ottawa Devils are pleased to once again be part of the Trillium Tour and would like to take this opportunity to thank Football Ontario for its work in bringing women's touch football back on the Tour.

The Kingston tournament has always been a Devils' favorite and we have always enjoyed great success. Well; this year did not disappoint. After a disappointing lost in the semi-finals of the Early Bird tournament, we were able to regroup and bring home the hardware (so to speak). Our offense and defense were in sync, putting up 151 points and only allowing 25. As impressive as it may seem, the Devils did see some good competition especially in the semis and finals. Accolades to the Roadrunners and to the Shock, you had a great tournament! We look forward to meeting you again on the tour.

Once again, thank you to Football Ontario for bringing woman's touch football back on the tour and we wish you continued success in helping make women's football as successful and competitive as it's been in the past.

On another note, we'd like to take this opportunity to wish Ed Laverty a Happy 40th Birthday. You look great Ed!!!
