One of the hottest teams on the Trillium Tour last year was Montreal’s Fleur De Lys. After capturing their very first elite title at the Ottawa stop, the talented Quebecers would compete for consecutive elite titles at the Unionville Invitational, and the Canadian Championships in Winnipeg.
The Fleur De Lys dropped a heartbreaking 21 to 20 decision to the Toronto Ravens in Unionville, contrasting their Nationals result, where they were handed a one sided, 35 to 6 loss, courtesy of the Toronto Shock.
At this years’ Early Bird, the Fleur De Lys wouldn’t have to wait long to prove that they are a far better team then their national result insinuated, as they would face the Toronto Shock for the first elite title of the year.
Preliminaries
Montreal Raiders 6 vs. Toronto Landell Lightning 0
Toronto Shock 13 vs. Toronto Rebels 12
Toronto Rockets 14 vs. Ottawa Devils 12
Montreal Fleur De Lys 32 vs. Toronto Ravens 12
Semi-Finals
Montreal Fleur De Lys 23 vs. Montreal Raiders 0
Toronto Shock 13 vs. Toronto Rockets 6
Aside from a couple of close battles with the Toronto Rockets and Rebels, the Shock and Fleur De Lys dominated their way to the championship game. Heading into the finals, both squads accumulated 194 combined points, setting the stage for a potential offensive showdown.
Despite their high offensive outputs over the tourney, the stingy defences of both teams took the spotlight. Impressively, the Fleur De Lys held the high-scoring Shock to a single converted touchdown. Scoring two themselves, the Fleur De Lys would avenge their National defeat, earn their second elite title in club history, and jump into the top spot in the overall rankings.
Congratulations on a fantastic start to your 2007 campaign ladies!
