The “A” division, like last year, is the platform for tier one teams to redeem disappointing preliminary results, and for tier two teams to make a name for themselves.

The Burlington Spartans, in rare fashion, dropped two contests over their round-robin and preliminary matches. Their competition in the “A” division was a face-off against the high- flying Hamilton Raiders, the newly formed Montreal Vandals, and the improved Ottawa Argos.

Quarter-Finals

Montreal Vandals 22 vs. Kitchener 8

Burlington Spartans 27 vs. Hamilton Raiders 20

Ottawa Argos 44 vs. Hamilton Hogs 14

Semi-Finals

Ottawa Argos 32 vs. Toronto Trojans 14

Burlington Spartans 32 vs. Montreal Vandals 12

The Hamilton Raiders, one of the most dominating lower ranked teams, unsurprisingly, kept things close in their match-up. What was surprising, however, was how easily the Spartans handled the Vandals and the Argos to capture the “A” title.

The newly formed Vandals feature many former Monster Gym ballers, including fleet-of-foot qb, Andy Pertiken. Prior to their one sided lost to the Spartans, the Vandals posted impressive results (Their victory over the Kitchener Gaels being the most prominent).

The Ottawa Argos, had a break- out season last year. Although they acquired some notable talent in the off- season, they suffered some obvious growing pains for Saturday action. Despite putting a string of solid performances together afterwards, the Argos got doubled by the Spartans in their championship game.
